Teachers At The Heart Of Education Recovery- World Teachers’ Day 2021
The teaching profession is not a 100 metres dash race. It is a marathon. The profession is also one meant for those with deep love and commitment for it. It is also not a profession meant for those who plan to get rich quick. However, the satisfaction derived from being a teacher, especially when the products of your endeavor make their marks in various fora of human endeavors is indescribable.
A lot has happened and is still happening in the educational sector, especially in Nigeria. We have recorded increased rate of insecurity, which has also rubbed off on the education sector. The heightened insecurity has led to high rate of kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers at all levels, abuse and avoidable deaths of schoolchildren, and indefinite shutdown of schools in some areas in Nigeria.
The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic about a year and a half ago also came with additional challenges, like an unexpected and unanticipated tsunami, the disease forcefully descended on mankind with unbridled fury decimating lives, altering our routine and forcing us-teachers- out of our comfort zone. However, our dogged and resilient spirit confronted the virus and its havoc with creativity, resilience and innovation. We actually had no option than to devise not just survival techniques, but thriving mechanisms.
Despite the challenges, the teacher’s dedication to imparting knowledge has remained indefatigable. We have been at the heart of it all, teaching, nurturing, counselling, nursing, grooming, cautioning, correcting, motivating and mentoring, using all available means and methods to reach the students, both online and physical.
As we journey towards total recovery in the educational sector, may we always remember that we are agents of positive change, called to make enduring generational impact.
Happy 2021 World Teachers’ Day noble colleagues.
Remember to give yourself some great and tantalizing personal treat.
Have a fabulous celebration.
